+ The EPA announced yesterday that there is “compelling scientific evidence” that there is global warming from manmade greenhouse gasses. The administration also released reports citing scientific evidence that the universe is more than 6,000 years old, and that bleeding is not an effective medical treatment. Robert Gibbs hinted at an announcement about the shape of the earth that may be released Thursday.

+ Senator Nelson (D-Neb.) has proposed an amendment that would ban healthcare plans, both public and private, that are sold on the insurance exchange from covering abortion procedures. He has announced that he will not vote for cloture on a bill that does not include his amendment. That’s problematic because he doesn’t have 60 votes for his amendment and Reid doesn’t have 60 votes on cloture for a bill without the amendment.

+ The Michigan Department of Transportation warns that it is running out of money. MDOT plans on canceling more than 100 road projects and and close to that many bridge projects over the next four years. While less roads under construction during the summer might make commutes a lot less obnoxious, there’s a real question to be considered about how much worse our roads can get before we’re living in the middle of Kamchatka peninsula.

+ Tens of Thousands of protesters filled the streets of Tehran yesterday shouting “death to the dictator!”. Sean Hannity tried to walk back his penchant for excited exaggeration by saying “I wasn’t there, but there must have been 3 to 4 million protesters! And all against Obama! I guess the world isn’t in love with him anymore”.

+ President Obama has sent an envoy, Stephen Bosworth, on a three-day diplomatic mission to North Korea. He is set to meet with Kang Sok Ju, Kim Jong Il’s chief foreign policy adviser. Bosworth’s mission is to re-establish a dialogue about bringing North Korea back to multi-lateral disarmament talks.

+ Great LTE from fellow Democrat Eileen Divringi today responding to conservative hyper-ventilation over those global warming e-mails from East Anglia University. Good job!

+ Freshman Alex Schiff writes a viewpoint in which he suggests that that MSA tackle issues that involve students where their opinion actually matters rather than trying to solve world peace. Clearly this is a ridiculous position.

+ Michigan Hockey gave up 5 goals to Ohio State in their Friday night game. We are now ranked 10th in the CCHA, our conference. These last couple years I’ve been trapped in some kind of alternate-universe sports nightmare.

Happy Tuesday Everyone!
