In what is a surprise for many observers, Harry Reid unveiled the health insurance reform bill that will be brought to the Senate floor sometime next week, and it includes a public option. Recently, speculation was leaning towards Reid including the government run insurance plan, but with a few differences from the House version, including an opt out for states who do not want it.
Even with the opt out in place, many question whether there are the votes to break a fillibuster on a bill that has any version of the publicn option in it. Debate on whether or not to begin debate (which I’m sure Tom Duvall will rant about) could ocurr as soon as this weekend.
